Fishing

As well as our accommodation we have the sole fishing rights to three small meadows of the River Teme, at nearby Tenbury Wells. This stretch of river is about 7 miles from the accomodation, it is very easy to find and the fishing is free to our guests. During dry conditions you may park your car by the river, otherwise it is a short walk from the road.

The river has Chub, Barbel, Roach, Dace, Grayling, Pike Trout and Bream and we have constructed solid platforms with scaffolding to ensure safe fishing positions, together with steps where necessary. There are not as many Barbel in the Teme as there were a few years ago but we have had fish to double figures in the last couple of years, we have a lot of Chub, some well over 4 lbs and a lot of Trout.

The stretch is relatively shallow in part of the top meadow, ideal for trotting for smaller fish, the river then deepens over a sandstone bed for a hundred yards or so. It then shallows off to what used to be a cattle drink again a good area for float fishing and the river then deepens through a sandstone gulley with various speeds of flow throughout the rest of the stretch. Even during dry periods when the river is low we still have over 6 feet of water along this gulley.

This fishing is quite close to the town so you can easily take a break and have a pub lunch, or a non fishing partner can have a look around the shops. Your car will be perfectly safe where it is.

If river fishing is not for you we have Froggatts Pools.

This series of match and pleasure fishing pools is only a mile and a half from our house, day tickets available on the bank. There are 5 pools in total including a large Specimen pool that holds Carp to over 30 lbs and Bream into double figures. If it is just a bit of fun fishing you are after the other pools are full of all manner of species and we regularly take our grandchildren there and at the age of 6 they were catching ten species a day with ease, sometimes with Carp up to ten pounds.

About 7 miles away too are the famous Docklow Pools , again a series of match fishing and pleasure lakes the same sort of fishing as Froggatts with the exception being that they are a little older and more established. Day tickets available on site.

Although they are further away, I can obtain day guest tickets for you on my club waters on the River Severn (20 miles away) and the River Wye ( 17 miles away)

There is a fishing tackle shop in Ludlow and we can always arrange bait for you.
